Although indoor dining has resumed in NYC, most of the city’s nightlife is still high up on rooftops, tucked away in back gardens, and spilling onto sidewalks. As the warm weather holds and our time spent away from screens feels more important than ever, all you have to do is grab your denim jacket and take to the streets for the best weekend ever.

Hidden behind the cellar speakeasy (so meta!) Patent Pending and operated by the same team, try one of their barrel-aged cocktails by making a reservation online or via to-go/delivery by calling 212-869-4002.

Turn absolutely anywhere into a dive bar

Grab a boozy slushie at Bushwick Country Club, where they’ve opened up their big backyard (and, um, questionable mini golf course) for a night of social distanced drinking. Stay and savor a couple of cheap drinks, or order a few rounds to-go and bring the whole party back to your place.

Meet for breakfast at a brand-new bakery

Ursula, the new New Mexican cafe and bakery from Eric See (of now closed The Awkward Scone), has arrived to fulfill your breakfast dreams. Get a coffee and some pastries—biscochitos, a cinnamon-sugar butter cookie, and green chile-apple pastelitos—or soothe that pulsing hangover with a chorizo, bacon, or vegan pinto bean breakfast burrito. Just make sure to come early, because breakfast service ends at noon.

Cosplay from home with Comic Con-themed cartoons

With New York’s Comic Con going entirely virtual this year, we’ll miss the annual sight of Harry Potters, Black Panthers, and Spocks descending on our fair city. But rest assured, you can still geek out by logging in to Spoons, Toons, and Booze’s Comic Con event for a night of superhero-themed Saturday morning cartoons. There will be drinking, cartoon trivia games, and a virtual costume contest, so come dressed as your favorite superhero or supervillain—or invent your own.

Eat your way through African Restaurant Week

Celebrate Black-owned small businesses in NYC during the African Restaurant Week Festival, when restaurants all over Brooklyn will be featuring food and drink specials so you can discover your new favorite dishes. In addition, you can stop by Bed Stuy’s Tompkins Ave and Putnam to browse a collection of food, art, and fashion vendors from the African diaspora. Shop local and support your favorite neighborhood spots.

Go shopping at a made-for-the-‘Gram grocer

The obsessively-curated and Instagram-ready Pop Up Grocer is in NYC until the end of this month. With aisles full of colorful snacks, drinks, beauty products, and home goods, it’s one of the most charming grocery stores that’s ever existed. If you’re worried about crowds, you can book a private appointment to shop between 9-10 am. For those who don’t like to wake up that early, don’t stress—only six customers will be allowed in at a time, and face coverings and social distancing are required.

Check out a burger club pop-up

Gotham Burger Social Club is stopping by Pig Beach this Sunday to sling some of their beloved Gotham Smash burgers. With wagyu patties smashed flat for maximum crispiness, topped with American cheese, pickles, ketchup, and special sauce, and then served in a Martin’s potato roll, these are cheeseburgers well worth waiting in line for. When they’re sold out, the pop-up’s over, so tell your friends to meet you there early to beat the rush.

Get abstract at the reopened Guggenheim

The reopened Guggenheim is kicking off with Jackson Pollock’s Mural, his largest-ever painting. The work hasn’t been seen in NYC in 20 years, so now’s your chance to say “My kid could do that!” while making your way through the iconic museum. If sculpture is more your speed, the exhibition Knotted, Torn, Scattered: Sculpture after Abstract Expressionism highlights six post-war artists including Richard Serra and Robert Morris.

Get into the Halloween spirit with Get Out

At Parklife, a giant open-air oasis in deep Brooklyn, you can sip cocktails and munch on tacos from their taqueria while watching Jordan Peele’s masterpiece Get Out projected on the big screen (you’ll have to BYO Froot Loops to recreate that iconic scene). Limited reservations are available, but most of the tables will be held for walk-ins; seating starts at 6:30, so show up on time if you want to score a good seat.
